Rugs inspired by the Norfolk coastline suggest a mindful way of living; through positive design and conscious creativity. Mental health and well being is at the forefront of recent trends and as such, comfort and contentment in ourselves and surroundings is becoming increasingly valued. Our brand intends to encourage customers to press pause in living spaces too.

With a desire to create thoughtful homeware products, a collection of rugs have been developed which are handwoven using rug wool and cotton cord. We are excited to start making large scale rugs as designs are tested and refined!

It is just two weeks until her first practical module will be submitted! With a deep passion for nature and the outdoors, the first project has been based on the Norfolk coastline. Allowing the landscape; its textures, forms and stories to inspire the design of wool and rope tapestries which will form wall hangings and rugs. This photograph is capturing the dramatic red and white cliffs of Hunstanton Beach.

Things are about to look a little different around here as Anna has enrolled on the MA Textile Design course at Bath Spa University. This picture seems appropriate to share as the start of something (terrifyingly) new and exciting. We hope you will stick with us as Anna shares her work through her university course and we look forward to seeing where this year takes Modern Makers.

Anna has been experimenting with different techniques to add colour to her rope vessels. Whether it is submerging the rope into a pre-mixed denim dye or dunking an already sewn rope vessel into a dye solution and carefully adjusting the depth to create a gradual gradient.

Over the coming weeks we will be experimenting with alternative sustainable and natural dye solutions and sharing the outcomes with you. Check out our Instagram page to see more of our experimental work.

After a long break it has taken a while to get back into the swing of things. We have been in a creative rut and over analysing EVERY thing! Why do we do that to ourselves? But we are back and taking little steps, one at a time, making baskets and experimenting with different colour techniques.

We will be sharing our 2018 market dates with you very soon.

It has taken us a while to get back into the swing of things but we are here with a FREE gift for you! To do lists and diary keeping is what I do best and so we have created a free downloadable 2018 calendar for you.

Our 2018 calendar is minimal, stylish and elegant, providing a monthly overview and serving as a decorative eye-catching accessory for your home or workplace.

We delivered our final Christmas order last night and we are packing our bags to take a break and spend time with family. As we reflect on the year we feel very proud of what we have achieved; from launching our website, featuring in the Bath life magazine, attending the new and wonderful bath independent market and hitting our first shops in Bath and Bradford on Avon. We have grown in products and confidence and met a lot of uplifting and lovely people along the way. Thank you for all your support this year, it means a lot to us and we look forward to seeing where Modern Makers takes us in the New Year. We wish you a very happy Christmas and see you in 2018! XO
